かい【会】

1 〔会合〕 a meeting; an assembly; a gathering; a party; a meet; a get-together; 〔会議〕 a conference.

～する ⇒かいする² 1.

●彼の家には木曜会と称して週に一度小説家の卵が集まった. Budding young writers gathered at his house once a week at what was known as a “Thursday meeting.”

・女[男]ばかりの会 a women-only [men-only] party; an all-women [all-men] party.

●今日は 6 時から顔を出さなくちゃならない会があるんだ. At six today there's a meeting I have to show up at [put in an appearance at].

・乾杯で会が始まった. The party started with a toast.

●会に出席する go to [attend, come to] a meeting [party]
